The Evidence-Based Programs Campaign is designed to trial localised and national trial programs that support the ex-ADF community to successfully transition, connect and adapt to life in Townsville with purpose and meaning (well-being).

The Campaign will ‘go out’ to the community, effectively engaging the general public (in some targeted capacities) to support the program by becoming involved in various suicide prevention  awareness training programs that is suited to the ex-ADF community and that also supports both youth and the media.

How will it happen?

Three key projects will be rolled out to the local Townsville community involving the provision of training for suicide awareness and prevention:

1) QPR & Lived Experience

  • QPR – Question, Persuade and Refer training targeting primary and front-line personnel (eg police, ambulance, hospitals) Online SP one hour training, 10,000 licenses available to saturate community.

  •  Lived Experience Training in collaboration with VVCS and Roses in the Ocean Lived Experience Collective.

2) YAM – Youth Aware Mental Health Training

Targeting two local secondary schools with defence links, offering training.

3) Media Suicide Prevention Training
Targeted training provided to journalists and media students (tertiary lecturer engagement)
Offer a refresher of ‘Mind Frame’ training.
